Day #27 – the easiest way to shuck corn ever!

October 27, 2013

This post may contain affiliate links which won’t change your price but will share some commission.

So I bought corn on the cob before my cousin got here because a) I wanted to try this trick and, b) she loves corn on the cob.*

*Truth be told I had no idea about b, that was just a happy coincidence.

But, we never got around to it. What, between sanding and priming and drag shows and all. You’ll need to be following along my Instagram feed if you want to see pictures of that last part. Let’s just say the costumes equaled FABULOUS! 🙂

And our corn ended up looking like this.

But, I’m going to share the trick with you anyway. Because a) the guy in this video is too cute not to share and b) over 2000 comments support the theory that it works.

Two additional tips I learned from the comments,

  1. Don’t wait for the corn to cool, definitely use an oven mit of your choice to take the corn out and do this right away for it to work.
  2. And flip the corn over half way through.

Too bad it’s not corn on the cob season right now.

I agree that is really easy. But usually when I buy corn I put it in the freezer. All I do is cut off both ends and peel off the first few layers of shucks until I have the ear completely covered in the pale green layers. Pop into a freezer bag and when I am ready to serve it, run the frozen ear under the warm water and wring (like a dishcloth) and everything falls right off…..don’t have to handle hot corn this way I have loved all your tips

Great idea! I’ve even thought to freeze corn!

Thanks for this. Any way to do it quickly without a microwave? I don’t have one, but am always looking for tidier, quicker ways to shuck corn. Thanks!

Hi Kim!! Someone left a comment about what they do after they freeze corn on the cob, that might work for you.

Oh. I thought she meant she microwaved the frozen corn first. I just didn’t understand. Thanks!
