taco seasoning {tip}

July 2, 2012

Itโ€™s that time again. The first Monday of the month where we share an easy peasy, super simple,ย somewhat silly to post about project or tip.

And today marks a milestone on this here blog. The first everย and, if you’re lucky, the last cooking tip.

Now, you really can’t even call it a cooking tip. It’s much more, something-random-I-discovered-last-week-while-making-tacos.

And, by ‘making tacos‘ I totally mean using a packaged taco seasoning mix to season hamburg to taste like taco meat. ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s what happened. I couldn’t find my measuring cup so … wait for it … I just used the seasoning mix packet for my water. Have you ever done that before? Please tell me this is monumental to at least one of you. Please! ๐Ÿ™‚
Clearly, I found the measuring cup. I was really curious how close I was to the suggested* amount. I couldn’t have gotten closer if I tried!

*Tell me I’m not the only one who considers all amounts and instructions on a recipe to be mere suggestions. ๐Ÿ™‚

So, the tip is – fill the seasoning packet to about 1 inch from the top and you have 2/3 of a cup AND you get the last bits of seasoning out of the packet which makes for gross looking water pictures. And you don’t dirty a measuring cup. Bonus!

What do you think, am I taking our ‘it’s a cinch’ theme too far with this one? It really seemed brilliant to me upon discovery … however, somewhat silly upon typing up the post.

Now, don’t forget to check out these other cinchy ideas that are sure to not disappoint. ๐Ÿ™‚

Who knew – but I had a similar revelation. While making my protein shake, I realized I didn’t need a measuring cup, the measurements are written right on the blender! Talk about a lightbulb moment! I’m slow – but once I catch on there’s no stopping me.

I can see it now, your next cinch post will be taco seasoning packets transformed into measuring spoons!

ok this is an ingenious tip. here’s my tip – don’t put any water in your taco meat at all. I never do. I think I will use this tip for a number of other things I use packages like this for though. Thanks dear.

Oh, for most cooking {not baking}, I think recipes are more suggestions and not required to be followed exactly! I guess that is why I don’t bake ๐Ÿ™‚

That is how my mom has always done it, but I can’t say I ever have. And now I’m hungry for tacos!

I’ve always done that because you get every bit of seasoning out. We used to do it with Kool-Aid growing up.

I can’t remember the last time I made taco seasoning, but I’ll definitely keep it in mind. Also! I just noticed that the green and grey damask pillows on your sidebar are the EXACT ones we have on our couch…except I got them on Target clearance for $3 a piece. Crazy!

Also, two things. I wanted to apologize for not checking in more! And also to award you with the One Lovely Blog and Very Inspiring Blogger Awards ๐Ÿ™‚ Congrats!

Simple ideas are only too obvious after you already have them… so share away because I for one had never thought of or tried this before. Oh, and the photo of the taco salad has me craving it now and it isn’t even 5 a.m. yet!
