upcycling ideas {Valentine’s Day ice cubes}

*an explanation for this awesome graphic can be found at the bottom of this post Just because we’re living out of a hotel seemingly just waiting for the perfect house to come and find us so we can buy it already doesn’t mean I can’t get a little Valentine’s Day inspiration at the thrift store, right?!?!  And because I’m always looking for upcycling ideas for thrift store finds, when I came across this heart mini muffin tin for $0.49 when I was big thriftin’ my first thought was “ice cubes!”. More specifically I thought red, heart shaped ice cubes would be the perfect accompaniment to any Valentine’s Day beverage.

2 last minute Christmas treats {with peppermint}

So I was waiting around at the deli for my Italian cold cut sub and my eyes started to wander.  It’s one of those quiet little small town delis, and no one else is around … the employee who took my order is now in the back making my sandwich. “and what to my wondering eyes should appear…” Well, a bag of white chocolate and peppermint covered pretzels.  :) And, like any DIYer would think, I thought “I could totally make those”. Now, I’m no fancy cooker lady, and DIY in the kitchen is oh-so-not-even-remotely close to DIY around the house.  But apparently I am the arrogant kind of DIYer.  You know the type. “Hi, I’m Karah and I like to make crafts and do home improvement so clearly I can cook anything I see in a bag in a deli.” Lucky for me, this little treat was so incredibly easy my 5 year old nephew could do it.  Which isn’t really a fair comparison because he did have to explain to me the other day what a periscope is. #iamnotsmarterthana5yearold Anyway, here is how I made some easy little white chocolate and peppermint pretzel sticks and still have enough kitchen prowess left over to whip up some dark chocolate and peppermint bark for a little Christmas party treat.

my 3 ingredient hummus (humus)

Now, we all know this isn’t a food blog. (Was that a collective sigh of relief from those who know me in real life I just heard?)  ;) But I have a few go-to recipes that even I can’t screw up most of the time. I’ve even tested them at parties and gatherings and no one got sick with resounding success.  So it seems safe to share them with y’all.  Especially for those of you in the same boat. You know who you are … not super adventurous in the kitchen but willing to give things a try and always on the look out for simple, tasty recipes to mix things up every now and again. With that, I introduce to you, my 3 ingredient hummus.

taco seasoning {tip}

It’s that time again.  The first Monday of the month where we share an easy peasy, super simple, somewhat silly to post about project or tip. And today marks a milestone on this here blog.  The first ever and, if you’re lucky, the last cooking tip. Now, you really can’t even call it a cooking tip.  It’s much more, something-random-I-discovered-last-week-while-making-tacos. And, by ‘making tacos‘ I totally mean using a packaged taco seasoning mix to season hamburg to taste like taco meat. Here’s what happened.
