fall craft {pumpkin}

Do you live on a Caribbean island where real pumpkins rot in about .2 seconds from the time you leave the grocery store? No? Maybe you’re just looking for a new take on the old Halloween craft project? Or, maybe you’re like me and just love to take something natural and make it into something unique.

old door {upcycle} how to make a wood coffee table tutorial

Happy Friday!!  How was your week? I feel like I came back to the island from our trip to the US ‘swinging’, so to speak.  Just ready to get things in order and become more productive and efficient in everything.  And get focused on my personal priorities … which definitely includes learning the ins and outs of our new camera!! So I can take better pictures of our current favorite project, our new coffee table that I made from an old door I pulled out of a dumpster.

homemade laundry detergent

I did it … finally. I have been wanting to make my own homemade laundry detergent for a few years now. I was all ready to take the plunge earlier this month. But, as happens now and again when living on an island, I couldn’t find all of the ingredients.

pallet {word art}

This project comes to you courtesy of my love affair with the world wide web of inspiration. Now, I first have to start out by saying that the outpouring of love and support that we have received in response to our 10 year old puppy going through surgery (more on that here) has been so overwhelming, in the best of ways.  All of the private emails and messages in addition to the comments, and those who have shared your own pet stories … you will never know how much it has helped us through this.  Us pet owners and lovers, we’re a special breed.  Hardeharhar!! Ok, now back to business, when the announcement came out that it was time for the next installment of the Pinterest Challenge co-hosted by Bower Power and Young House Love … and this time with the addition of Centsational Girl and Ten June … it was very fitting that I had been spending a lot of time on this pin board. In particular, I had just pinned this by the very creative Michael from Inspired by Charm. And you all know how I heart a good piece of decorative word art on wood.  So, I thought, challenge = accepted.  Let’s stop pinning for a second, and start doing.  :)

how to make a pallet bed

It’s that time again.  The first Monday of the month where we share an easy peasy, super simple, somewhat silly to post about project. And today, my friends, we are going step-by-step into my rooftop pallet bed making process.

the temporary tattoo image transfer technique

Do you ever wear a temporary tattoo?  No, I’m not talking to your kids.  I mean you.  :) I do. And it turns out that habit came in handy when trying to figure out how to do an image transfer on the cheap. I still don’t have a vinyl cutting machine, or even any idea of what those things are and how they would work.  But I have a home printer, and Picmonkey.  And, I need Picmonkey for this because I don’t know how to reverse text in Word.  Do you?  Do tell. Update: I shared how to reverse text in Word here.

how to make chalkboard paint

Hello, hello!  How are all of you fine folks today? I am finally feeling like I’m getting caught up from the blog move.  I still have a bit of a headache from all of the coding.  But, I’m spending less time on what I call “back of the house” blog things and refocusing on what would then be “front of the house” blog things.  Like projects and post ideas…so many fun things swirling around this little brain of mine to share with you.  :) So, let’s start with what I think is a REALLY fun one.
