joy to the world {simple Christmas wreath}

This time of year really is the best, isn’t it?!?! The holiday spirit is in the air, holiday decor is strewn about and holiday cheer is abundant.  :)  I practically hear carolers singing “Joy to the World” right now. I love that first delve into the Christmas decor and crafting.  I like to see what we’ve got from year’s past that still inspires me and try to come up with a few new ideas at the same time.  All while I watch my husband roll his eyes at me as I pace to and fro between him and his football, or futball, or whatever sport he’s watching at the time. Hey, this decor thing takes time.  You gotta step back, look at it from all angles, scootch it around a bit and then step back for another look … am I right!?! On my decor day we even had the island equivalent of what could be considered a winter storm.  Brrrrr! Just kidding I think it did get down to 79 degrees though … which is close to a record low.  And the perfect day for dilly dallying around with some Christmas decor I say. So I made a few new driftwood Christmas trees and gave our fall leaf wreath a winter makeover.

month in minutes {july 2012}

Check this out … the monthly review in the first week of the following month.  #surprisedmyselfwithmyefficiency July has always been a favorite month of mine … and it proved to be the same on the blog. I started the month begging asking for help as I started to undertake a living room redo. So far, as part of the Blogging without Borders series we have made a floating shelf and started work on DIYing a coffee table.  I am reeeally hoping to have that for you at the next update. If this review is old news to you, head over to see what the other gals are up to. We had a bunch of fun with decor on this new floating shelf.  Well, I know I did, I hope you did, too.  :) From the initial attempt, an early fall mantel and the most recent where we finally brought ‘the girls‘ back and added a pop of color with a spray painted leaf wreath. How to Build a Floating Shelf Tutorial is here! I enjoyed putting together a round-up of 105 ideas for your 4th of July celebration.  What a great resource! I was a day late so feel free to pin it for next year.  :) And I also made another piece of pallet word art that I adore.  It has been the perfect, sun shiny addition to our rooftop pallet bed area. July was also great fun for me as part of the Hometalk Ambassador team.  I shared my tips for posting your projects on Hometalk here.  And also had a blast with my girlfriends at our DIY pool party with Hometalk ‘swag’ here.  Thank you so much Hometalk, and Miriam, for the wonderful opportunity.  :)  It gave me chance to help my friend Carol learn how to use … continue reading

taco seasoning {tip}

It’s that time again.  The first Monday of the month where we share an easy peasy, super simple, somewhat silly to post about project or tip. And today marks a milestone on this here blog.  The first ever and, if you’re lucky, the last cooking tip. Now, you really can’t even call it a cooking tip.  It’s much more, something-random-I-discovered-last-week-while-making-tacos. And, by ‘making tacos‘ I totally mean using a packaged taco seasoning mix to season hamburg to taste like taco meat. Here’s what happened.

how to make a pallet bed

how to reverse image {and text} in word

Ok, so it would be an understatement to say that I’m not totally thrilled that there isn’t just some bright, big, right-in-my face ‘reverse text’ tab on the home screen in Word.  Phew! I would have felt like a total loser.  But, lucky for me, I only feel like kind of loser.  Truth be told, there is a pretty simple, however not 100% intuitive (at least that’s what I’m choosing to tell myself) option that my blog buddy Linda pointed out to me.  And she just so happened to have posted a great tutorial for the version of Word she was using. And, since I had to figure out a couple of the steps in our Microsoft Word 2007 ’cause we’ve totally got the latest and greatest technology, here is the step-by-step tutorial to make a reverse image for my your future reference.  ;) And, yes, I totally did type ‘horixontal’ in that step description.  And, a little insider secret, if you hover over the picture for step 4 … I saved it on my computer as ‘right your text’ instead of ‘write your text’.  Awesome, I am.  Sigh.   Now, print and then just follow the steps for the image transfer using your newly mirrored image here. And, an awesome reader of this here blog, Patty, gave another great set of instructions using the text box option in Word.  I have to admit, I got hung up on the ‘paste as a picture’ step.  I’m used to a ‘paste special’ option and it just wasn’t working that way for me.  But, it might just be because I am kind of a loser am not that bright have the attention span of a wasp didn’t take the time to make it work.  I’m sharing it here fully expecting that many of you … continue reading

how to make a dry erase board

Have you ever done a project that was so easy it was almost embarrassing?  Like, can this really even be called a project? And, really, should I even write a post about this ‘project’ or will I just look like a bit of an idiot when everyone reads the post and has the same reaction?  ”Duh, Karah!”

month in minutes {march 2012}

Hey hey!  Happy Monday. Most of you in the states are probably off today, right?  Hard to believe how easy it is to get out of touch with holiday schedules.  I don’t even know if today is a holiday here in Curacao. Oblivious much.  :/ Anyway, it seems like a good day to review all that was the month of March, with some new stuff mixed in for fun.  For me, it was one of those months where I feel like I didn’t actually finish much.  I worked on a lot, was a bit all over the board…but let’s see what was actually done, shall we?
