I tend to pride myself on being an even-keeled, take-it-as-it-comes, what-will-be-will-be sort of gal. But I have to tell you, I had a brief moment of panic the other day. This whole living in transition thing might just be wearing us all down. Just look at Marley all sad-faced laying in front of the door to ensure we don’t leave this hotel room without her. Poor puppy. :( On the other hand, Mico seems to think the big bed and cool temps are just about perfect. Ignorance truly is bliss. ;)
Ok, so the song actually goes … … “Now I’m falling in love as she’s walking away” … But it was really all I could think of when I took this picture. This is the last view I had of our humble Curacao abode as we were walking out of the yard at the house in Curacao and packing up the taxi to head to the airport.
Do you ever think about your legacy? I don’t. Or didn’t. I hear it asked to outgoing presidents and super-athletes all the time. ”What do you want your legacy to be?”. Do normal people even have ‘legacies’? Why not?
We’re blogging without borders here today. If you’ve missed my first few attempts at updating our living room you can get all caught up here, here and here. And today … she’s here … the old door I pulled out of a dumpster on the way to meet friends at the pool one day has transformed into a coffee table!! And here’s how it happened.
Ok, well clearly I’ve gotten into the bad habit of posting this little recap about 10 days into the month. Sorry ’bout that! So let’s get right to it and take a look back and see what we did in June, shall we?!?! Maybe the reason this is so late is that I haven’t gotten out of this baby since we made her? I wish I could blame it on the new pallet bed we made in 3 easy steps.
Happy Fourth of July everyone! It has been a crazy week around here, to say the least. Warning: This is not at all about a project, decor idea, tip, tutorial or other DIY relevant topic. This is about when real life happens and the desire for a space to be beautiful doesn’t even remotely exist. When a room’s one and only purpose is to function in real life. When it doesn’t bother you in the least when your ‘master bedroom’ looks like this.
Well, I think everyone has a little extra baggage we’re lugging around. But, let’s be careful about what we consider other people’s baggage. Am I right, Bachelorette Emily? When I got an email from Houzz asking if they could guest post on this here blog, and I knew they had their vast website as a resource to access a wide variety of ideas that you wonderful readers would enjoy, I thought if they could share a few creative storage ideas, all us breadbox sized house lovers would unite and rejoice! We’re singing kumbaya as we dance hand in hand around our baggage right now. ;) Check it out!
This is a very short, but very heartfelt foto friday tribute to a very good dog … a legendary dog. RIP Zebbie. And I will be back in a bit with a very rare second post to show you our new and improved space in The Great Outdoors to kick off the Memorial Day weekend and get you all in the mood for The Great Outdoors link party here THIS Tuesday, May 29th. Link here to be seen on 5 fabulous blogs. Here’s a sneak peek … You can check out previous foto fridays here, here and here.
I really don’t ever mean to rub in what my current life is like. But, I know sometimes it just happens. And, today, might just be one of those days. So, so sorry. ;) I found myself spending the day at my friend Suzie’s last week and here is just a little of what we endured enjoyed on a random pretty typical day. The view to the right.
Happy Friday y’all! It’s no secret that I have a love affair with these ladies. We got them both at 8 weeks old and they really are my best buds. Mico will be 10 this year and Marley turns 11 in July. And to say that I am dreading everything that comes with watching them age is an understatement. Deep sigh. One little bit of random island information is that there are A LOT of dogs. Street dogs, stray dogs, house dogs, you name it. But, it’s not common at all to put your dog on a leash and go for a walk around the ‘hood. But the girls and I, we’ve never really been common, so we take our daily stroll and attract quite a bit of attention. I brought my camera along one day to try to capture some of the craziness.
So yesterday my dear friend Kari from Thistlewood Farm posted a fun little post about where she walks … and it turns out, it was for a good cause. I learned that one of Kari’s sisters, Whitney, (exactly how many sisters Kari has is unclear…they seem to be coming out of the woodwork these days), works for The American Heart Association and in honor of National Walking Day (April 4, 2012), they launched a contest on their Pinterest page. All you have to do is pin a photo of where you walk and you’ll be entered for a random drawing and a chance to win one of five iPod Shuffles and a $25 iTunes Gift Card. Fun right?!? I first showed you where I walk when I trimmed back the overgrowth as part of my little Kindness Project. And I just so happened to be back there walking some more on Monday with my handy dandy camera. Mico also does some swimming … and always learns the hard way that the birds are farther away than they seem. Always! This is also the same walk where we found the long board. And this time we came across a bit of a ship dingy wreck. So I suggest you all “take a hike” this weekend. And then pin a picture of it. :) If you’d like to see previous foto fridays you can check them out here, here, here, here and here. And if you’d like to know more about National Walking Day or get tips and info for your health find your local Facebook page here: www.heart.org/swaonline or follow them on Twitter: www.twitter.com/heart_south. Contest Guidelines 1. Take a walk and snap a pic of your favorite path. 2. Pin it on your Pinterest account and add #walkit in the description. Then tweet us your username @heartsouth or … continue reading
Hey hey! Happy Monday. Most of you in the states are probably off today, right? Hard to believe how easy it is to get out of touch with holiday schedules. I don’t even know if today is a holiday here in Curacao. Oblivious much. :/ Anyway, it seems like a good day to review all that was the month of March, with some new stuff mixed in for fun. For me, it was one of those months where I feel like I didn’t actually finish much. I worked on a lot, was a bit all over the board…but let’s see what was actually done, shall we?
Happy Monday y’all! I am still on my little Florida vacation but I just wanted to introduce you to a fun blog I know. Gotta love a gal who has the cutest dogs … … and is super crafty.
I got so many encouraging comments and emails about last week’s photos so I’m continuing the trend…sharing a few fun things I saw throughout the week here in Curacao. Thanks for all of the support. I sure do appreciate it. :) Now, most Saturday mornings I can be found here…sorry for the sunrise directly behind the sign. And then here. Well, not actually at the dumpster…the dumpster is outside of the bakery. This is a pic I took last year. Apparently I haven’t seen anything interesting at the bakery since. :) On the US President’s Day holiday…otherwise known as Carnival here in the Caribbean…also a holiday…we brought these hooligans to the beach. And they quickly made friends with this lovely couple happy to give Marley attention and feed Mico chips…aka Doggy Heaven. We watched a young boy fishing. What are the chances he knows he can hang a whole gallery wall with fishing line? ;) And we watched the sun set. And… …I may or may not have test painted the back of one of our couches… Let’s hope today isn’t the day Joel decides to start reading the blog. ;) Have a great weekend! See you next week. If you’d like to see the first foto friday you can check it out here. I am going to share Foto Friday with the Wordless Wednesday gals. Flip Flops & Pearls, Live and Love … Out Loud, Nap Time Mom Tog, Project Alicia, and then she snapped, The Paper Mama, Parenting by Dummies, A Fresh Perspective, NOLA Mommy, Baby Baby Lemon, Dagmar’s Momsense, Better in Bulk
Seriously. I mean, who’s into perfect anymore? Well, I’m sure there are many out there. But not this girl. Is there really any better way to set yourself up for disappointment…than to expect perfection? For starters, I would never be living in this house. Oh, how you are imperfect…let me count the ways. But let me only point out the tile…oh the tile of which you have an abundance. But what was it that someone once said…where ever you are, I am home…or, my favorite thing about my house is who I share it with…or, as long as we’re living here together I can overlook the tile…it was something like that. ;) And it really isn’t about the structure, or even the things in it, is it?!? Oh, if it were about the perfection of the things… I would probably shudder at the sight of that silly, un-level driftwood shelf in my new one screw gallery wall every time I walked in the room. Or, I might have finished re-upholstering that chair by now…8 years later. Or, I might not have gotten disproportionately excited when I bought these hideous couches for $65 for the pair. I can’t even tell you how hard it is to find “American” sized furniture for a reasonable price on an island. As an aside, if you’re looking for perfection, definitely don’t move to a Caribbean island…I know some people who learned that lesson the hard way. Please refer back to that comment I made earlier…something about the expectation of perfection = surefire disappointment. :) Now, I have to give a shout out to the Nester for the idea of Celebrating the Imperfect with a link party. And, in contemplating her idea, I realize, that through my never-ending search for a steal deal, my need to find ways, albeit … continue reading
Happy Friday. Just for fun, I thought I’d try something new and share a few things I saw this week. I pass this church all the time and I finally got stuck at the red light long enough to take a pic…too bad it was a gray day in Curacao. Imagine it with a bright blue sky back drop. :) Our view during a little lunch date…luckily not a gray day. :) A typical evening in our house. Me admiring the gallery wall while at least one dog and one husband sleep on the couch watch tv. My Valentine’s Day card from Joel. Someone knows what my favorite price is. :) And, I may or may not have done some dumpster diving. I also carried a 1 x 8 x 16 foot long piece of perfectly drifted wood home from an afternoon dog walk. Now I just need to figure out what to make with it. A coffee table? Shelving? Here’s a sneak peak…picture this sixteen feet long. :) What would you make with a 16 foot long, 8 inch wide and 1 inch think rusty, partially painted piece of wood? Have anything fun planned for the weekend? Do you carry long boards home from the beach? Funny story – when I texted Joel to tell him I might need help carrying a long board home, he was picturing me carrying a long board surf board. Now that I type that…it doesn’t seem as funny as it was in real life. :/ I am going to share Foto Friday with the Wordless Wednesday gals.
